An Ode to the Great Founding Fathers

While every Joe and every Shmoe are making their attempts at putting their two cents into the never-ending ‘right to bear arms’ debate, it is important that in the midst of this hot mess of a debate we go back to the views, desires, and intent of the founding fathers. This will be an ode to the brilliance of our founding fathers, and if they were alive today I would hug and high-five each and every one of them, their wives, and children.

Whether it tickles your fancy or not, the set of rules that were instituted by these previous geniuses were carefully thought-out to bring about a prosperous and free nation. So my deep apologizes go out to the left-winged hippie anarchist who “strongly disagrees” with our set of successful rules because I imagine that half-way through your read you will most likely light a bong and offer sacrifices to mother earth to de-stress yourself of the offenses you are reading .

If this is the case, maybe you are a self-proclaimed genius and are particularly fond of writing your own constitution due to the fact that you are opposed to America’s organized set of rules, thus inspired to start your own ‘nation’ on a deserted island? We very much welcome that idea and are anxious to see the results of your anarchist cult, which will most likely end in disaster, disorder, and instability just as other like-minded cults have resulted.

When the constitution was drafted and finalized, the main goal of the authors was to stabilize a nation that was not run by a tyrannical government. I’ll save the bore of a long history lesson but as a short synopsis, we broke away from the British due to over-taxation and declared independence in 1776. Using a weaker set of laws known as the Articles of Confederation for the initial 13 states then moving into the drafting and finalization of the set of laws we know today as the United States Constitution, the goal was for a balanced government, strong military, and for free people to protect themselves from an oppressive government. Your boring history lesson is now over. You can now breathe and for the hippies reading this, you are probably confused because that is most likely the most American history you have read since your 4th grade social studies quiz.

So why formulate and draft a different law system than the British? Simply put, the British are extremely inferior. Ok, maybe not to that extent but the repercussions of a tyrannical government is what lead the founding fathers to concoct a set of laws that allow for a balance of powers. The founding fathers saw and understood the profound dangers of tyranny and the effects it had on the people therefore wanted to institute laws that can build a strong foundation, benefiting the people as well the government. Pretty sexy of them to do, huh?

Starting a business can be categorized as tough stuff but imagine having to start a nation with laws everyone must abide by for stability while at the same time allow freedoms in religion, pursuit of happiness, prosperous economy, and unbeatable military. You need to have major cajones to embark upon such a journey and take on that burden and for that, our founding fathers get a special cheers for making this great nation what it is today. Without their endless sleepless nights, countless glasses of Scotch, and fine cigars, I would venture to say our country’s founding principles would be a lot let awesome than they are today.

    Sadly, no, progressive chick didn’t fall asleep in HER history classes; that’s what they’re teaching kids these days in OUR schools! It’s just not the history WE learned; but then not all that was precisely accurate; for example, did you know that our Constitution was revised and effectively nullified back in the late 1860s under the direction of one Thaddeus Stevens, despite President Andrew Johnson’s opposition to it? Or that DC incorporated, which was when if became the “District of Columbia”, prior to which it had simply been Washington City? Or that Lincoln acted against the Constitution when he took up arms against the seceding southern states; which were well within their Constitutional rights to do so? That was a provision that several states had insisted be included before it was ratified originally.

  Slavery was not the product of, nor was it an evil introduced by the Founders. Slavery was introduced in America nearly two centuries before the Founders. Every attempt among the Colonies to end slavery had been thwarted or reversed by the British Crown. In the years following America’s separation from Great Britain, many of the Founding Fathers who had owned slaves released them. The majority of the Founders were against slavery and many of them even belonged to organizations dedicated to ending it. George Washington, John Adams, Charles CArol, John Dickinson, John Jay, Richard Henry Lee, Luthor Martin, Benjamin Rush, James Wilson, John Witherspoon and others all had written or spoken strongly AGAINST slavery. The Constitutional Convention records are clear that the provision of counting slaves as 3/5ths of a person was designed specifically to perpetually reduce the political power of the southern slave states.
  The representatives that the states sent to the Convention were held in high esteem by their peers and were measured as wise and successful by the people that they represented.

    Slavery was introduced into first Europe and then America by our “good” Muslim friends, and was part of the reason for the Barbary Coast War, in the early 1800s {remember “to the shores of Tripoli” in the Marines’ Hymn; that’s what it comes from}, because they were pirating our shipping when we tried to trade with European nations and selling our sailors into slavery, or killing them off. That was their “glorious contribution” to our early history!

  YOU go back to whichever of the Marxist regime you came from! SOME of our Founding Fathers were slave owners and even they did recognize the wrong of it; all were aware that not dealing with that issue during the writing of even the Declaration, would come back to bite the nation one day, as in fact it did. They were human, not perfect and some small few wouldn’t give up their right to hold slaves at the time the Declarations was penned, but the rest felt separation from King George was an ESSENTIAL first step, and the only way to make that was to compromise on the issue of slaves for that time! That was still so at the time the Constitution was ratified. To the best of my knowledge, none had more than one wife at a time, although not all were completely faithful to that wife. But that doesn’t change the brilliance of the documents they gave us!

ProgressiveChick, you must be proud of your first amendment rights, but guess what the people that you are trashing wrote it. Further more if you would get a bit more educated you would understand that the democract party is the group that fought to keep slavery in our country. The cheating remark is so far off base, puritans were the dominate group, therefore no cheating or multiple wifes. Actually have really taken a personal offence to your words of hate toward our forefathers and our country. You really need to go to another country, for you see you do not know how good you have it here or why you have it so good. You are the ignorant person, not Damaris Grant who has more knowledge in her little finger then what you have in that entire burned out brain that rattles in your skull.

  What article did YOU read??? The young lady who wrote the above article was praising not denigrating our Founding Fathers, and speaks of them as a true American does, which,in my experience, is the norm for immigrants from former Soviet bloc nations, BECAUSE they understand and value what our Founders gave us, as she clearly does also.

Try as they will, progressives cannot come up with something better than our Constitution. When they taught us about the Constitution in school, and yes they did that back then, I was in awe. It was and is a masterpiece! Too bad that there are people around that want to destroy it! No our system is not perfect, but it still is the best one around so far.

I will give you most of that, with one exception. Our founding fathers beleved the people were to defend the country, with a minimal military. Many thought that a standing army was a great threat to liberty. They feared the ability of a standing army to take too much control, hence the Commander and Chief should be civilian, and the people should handle all domestic security.
