Mayor Bloomberg, the spoiled rich kid who thinks he knows more about everything than anyone who is not as rich as he is, is at it again. This is the man who thinks because he is rich he can decide not only that it is not healthy for people to drink large quantities of soda, but that he can outlaw the sodas themselves and criminalize people who would like to drink or serve them.
This is the man who thinks that cigarette smoking outdoors should be illegal. This is the man who thinks that you have no right to defend yourself, despite being surrounded by armed police himself, paid for with your tax money. This is the man, who when his plan for “green” taxis was rebuffed by the courts, publically cursed out the owner of the taxi concession and promised to “take care of him” gangster style. This is a politician who, like many in the Obama administration, is a tyrant.
Mayor Bloomberg, blaming guns and crimes on states with gun laws more in line with the Constitution than those his New York fiefdom, sent operatives here to Virginia a few years ago to try some “sting” operations, overreaching his authority as Mayor of New York by a few hundred miles, unless of course you feel as he does that he is some kind of anointed arbiter of what he thinks should be universal law.
Virginia put a stop to this power grab and sent his folks back to New York with their tails between their legs, and a warning that if they tried this again they would find themselves in a Virginia jail.
Never the quitter, Mayor Bloomberg has now taken his “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” traveling circus on the road. The irony of course is in the disingenuous title of his group – in his opinion any guns should be illegal, and probably any sodas as well.
His road show features a parade of survivors of shootings, family members of victims of shootings, and an assortment of leftist hangers on as part of their shameful exploitation of the victims of violence.
In an attempt to dramatically read the names of the alleged victims of gun violence, the group used a list compiled by the liberal Slate.com of people killed by guns since the Dec. 14 massacre at Sandy Hook, which included Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the alleged terrorist who was killed during a gunfight with police in Watertown, Mass. while trying to evade capture following the April 15th bombings.
This error, of course, which should highlight the lack of integrity of the planners, who obviously were simply looking for numbers and clueless as to the circumstances responsible for these individuals’ deaths, was immediately decried by NHGOP Chairman Jennifer Horn, who said in a statement, “It is outrageous that Mayor Bloomberg’s gun control group is so radical and out of touch with New Hampshire values that it believes this monster should be labeled as some kind of victim.”
She is certainly right about Bloomberg and the gun banners being out of touch with not just New Hampshire values, but the values of the nation.
However, the error in thinking that Tsarnaev is really in the same league as the children in the Sandy Hook school reveals the true nature of what Bloomberg and his gun-hating sycophants believe – that these folks are incapable of distinguishing between legitimate and illegitimate uses of guns.
The Bloomberg road show is reminiscent of similar emotional appeals used by MADD to reduce the legal blood alcohol level for driving. There is no question that drinking drivers are a huge problem and that their abuse results in many victims being severely injured or killed. Similarly, there is no question that guns are a preferred method used by criminals to severely injure and kill people.
What is difficult to understand is how changing the legal blood alcohol level is going to reduce the carnage. Are drinkers going to somehow determine their blood alcohol level and take a taxi if it exceeds the new limit?
Is a conviction that is possible due to a minute change in the law that wasn’t possible previously going to bring the victim back to life? How are more restrictive gun laws going to stop the activities of criminals, who by definition do not obey laws?
One could create a similar dog and pony show by simply parading the victims and families of victims of car accidents in general before the public. Needless to say, the number of victims of shootings pales in comparison to those involved in automobile accidents. The yearly carnage is every bit as tragic for those involved as it is for the victims of gun violence.
One has only to drive along any stretch of road to see the crosses with flowers on them memorializing the loss of a loved one or loved ones to imagine what the families placing the memorials must have gone through. Yet nobody is calling for banning automobiles, at least not yet.
The reason of course is that automobiles have constructive uses, and are used by most everyone on a daily basis. The ubiquity of the automobile in our culture constantly accentuates the positive aspects of car ownership and use, and minimizes the negative aspects. The gun grabbers are actively creating the opposite situation with guns. Unless you watch a hunting channel on cable TV, or are actively involved in hunting or shooting sports yourself, you will not be exposed to anything but an incessant barrage of negative disinformation about gun violence and the need to ban guns, not to mention gratuitous violence in all the entertainment media from TV to video games.
This form of propaganda and brainwashing is the new weapon of the Left in this country. They are using the media – TV, radio, and the Internet which most Americans are tuned into at home, at work, and 24/7 on their iPods, iPads, Androids, Smart Phones, and everything else, to literally brainwash the American people into believing that guns are “bad”, people who have guns are “bad”, and that the Constitution, which supports both, is no longer relevant.
The maxim that “if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it”, as famously practiced by the mainstream media is being used, in Obama’s famous words, to “fundamentally change America”.
So, the “mistake” made by Bloomberg and company, was not really a mistake. Oh, sure, if they had paid a little attention to their list they would probably scrubbed Tsarnaev’s name, as he was killed by the police. But if he had been shot by a citizen, while he was hiding in a boat in his backyard, or while he was breaking into his home, what would the reaction of Bloomberg’s nannies, the mainstream media, and the brainwashed public have been?
