Now THIS is a multiBILLION-dollar idea!
Senator Ted Cruz is introducing a bill that would use the $14 billion seized from the cartel drug lord El Chapo to pay for the border wall.
In a statement, Cruz said:
“Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border. Ensuring the safety and security of Texans is one of my top priorities.”
Cruz said using criminally forfeited assets from El Chapo, along with other Mexican cartel drug runners, can “offset the wall’s cost and make meaningful progress toward achieving President Trump’s stated border security objectives.”
The bill is named the Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order (EL CHAPO) Act. It’s a mouthful but totally worth it.
“The U.S. Government is currently seeking the criminal forfeiture of more than $14 billion in drug proceeds and illicit profits from El Chapo, the former leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel who was recently extradited to the U.S. to face criminal prosecution for numerous alleged drug-related crimes, including conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering,” Cruz said about the bill.
The Mexican government extradited the former drug lord back in January.
After months of court battles in Mexico (not to mention Chapo’s multiple escapes), he was finally moved to an American prison cell, according to Breitbart Texas.
Murder charges have been filed against the kingpin, although, because of an agreement with Mexico, El Chapo will not face the death penalty.
