We need a lot more common sense sheriffs and other law enforcement officers like this and a whole lot more common sense legislators in our local governmental bodies, in our state capitals and in the US Congress

    • majorking

Fat chance! Not in your lifetime will you see “common sense” with most politicians and many law enforcement personnel

  • http://www.survivingurbancrisis.com/ Silas Longshot

A lot of sheriffs, unfortunately, are far more interested in their political careers over the sworn oath of office and will kiss the azz of their masters, doing their unconstitutional dirty work for the gun grabbing politicians. And many others don’t realize their office trumps ALL state authority and even the fedz when it comes to enforcing the law in their county.

If you are so lucky to have a patriot like these courageous men as your sheriff, support him in all the ways you can. If you don’t, then VOTE THE S.O.B.OUT while you still can!!

The Sheriffs who try to enforce the law of confiscation will not get in the next election!

    • http://twitter.com/Mrkamikaze MrKamikaze

I am lucky enough to live in weld county one of the last bastions of sense in Colorado. Its still not enough to keep me from moving me and my family out of the state i have lived in all my life…..the hippies can have it!

  • Mike11C

Even if the Sheriff wanted to enforce that ridiculous law, when the Supreme Court rules the law unconstitutional, which they will, all of the cases that have built up will have to be dismissed and expunged.

    • hal

Just pray for the health of the supreme court judges that go by the constitution .If we loose just one of them then its goodbye constitution.

  • HorseTeethSam

All I can think about is prohibition, and how wonderfully well that worked out… Or the modern “War on Drugs”. Idiots…

Isn’t marijuana legalization supposed to be a liberal issue??? By me, it is a $100 billion waste of money. And preaching against drug use should be left to the ministers.

  • Hawkeye3939

Nullification is now the name of the game. So long as the Progressive loons keep passing stupid laws, real Americans have to stand up and tell them “Not just NO, but HELL NO!” Look at the gun control laws that have already been passed in the Peoples’ Democratic Republics of New York, Maryland, and Colorado–will any of these repressive laws have any effect on gun crimes? Will any of them prevent the types of murders we have seen recently? No way. What they WILL do, is deprive law-abiding Americans of the right to keep and bear arms. The madmen will still be able to steal guns, buy guns on the black market, or otherwise acquire the means to commit mass murders. And they’ll continue to do it in “gun-free” zones where they are guaranteed safety for themselves.

    • bob novak

If I ever get put on a jury for a stupid ass trial regarding the state and gun control, I’ll sure the hell nullify the verdict. No way would I convict. Hell, I’d lie just to get on a jury case like this to screw it up for the state.

I am happy to see Sheriff’s all over the country coming to the side of true patriots. These are the people we need. Thank you.

When he is gone, those laws are going to be reversed!

    • granny

Yes, but what lying democrat (if Dems are re-elected), would reverse it. The ones they are looking at in 2016 (Dems & GOP) are not to my choices.. Idiots, they all talk about ban the weapons.. But most of them own them. Thats the phrase, “don’t do as I do…..do as I say.

  • Tired of taking the blame

I have a question for those who argue for background checks. The federal law specifically requires the government to destroy all records of background checks within days of completing the firearms transaction, that would include financial records that a background check has been made or else the law has not been complied with. If the law is complied with and the government record(s) have been dutifully destoryed AS REQUIRED BY LAW how is a member of the oppressive authority going to determine that a background check has been made or not? This background check would seem to be an unenforceable law and an unenforceable law is worse than no law at all.

El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said his office keeps records of every concealed carry permit holder in the county as required by law, but he would never share it.

He said he would destroy the database if anyone tried to get their hands on it and would intervene if government agents started arresting county residents for exercising their constitutional rights.

He is either lying or fooling himself

The only way this could possibly happen is if the ONLY records were on paper and he destroyed those paper records. Once something is committed to a computer memory, there is a record somewhere where it can be retrived.

Democrats signing laws to remove guns from law abiding citizens are just trying to protect their whacko progressive mass murdering political comrades.

  • Sinatra98

Hoorah for John Cooke we need more men with his kind of thinking, now if only Biden, Holder and the liar in chief would have a brain maybe we could move forward on much more issues but the liberal brains in this country are just plain idiotic.

  • Made_in_the_USA

Yeah, let’s pass more gun laws, even though DOJ/LE can’t/doesn’t enforce all the thousands of gun laws they’ve already passed. Seriously, what do we pay these elected officials for anyway????

We know which Dems are on BOZO’s band wagon. Its called kissing donkeys (cleaned it up so it would pass inspection). However, the bible clearly states that Mary rode an ass into Jerusleum.. Now BOZO is trying to ride ours. He’s in for big surprise, as mine is locked & loaded….w/ timer.

  • marineh2ominer

We need lawmakers with the same kind of commonsense and courage these sheriffs have . We could straighten the whole country out in no time .

  • James Maxwell

It will be intersting to see how the upcomming election in Colorado go with the passage
of these corrupt laws in violation of the Constitution and if they are challenged in the State

  • wyatt81

Most of law enforcement knows these measures are foolish, impotent, grandstanding moves that the left is famous for. Our government seems to be overflowing with pompous, self anointed royals now instead of represenatives. I hope the push back to these arrogant peacocks continues from all quarters.

  • James Maxwell

When the next elections come up in 2014 it will be intersting to see how many are
replaced in Colorado. Plus the gun companies there will also be looking for a new
place to move where they are more friendly and receptive to Gun companies. This
will effect their economy considerable considering the taxes that these companies
pay. Also it will be intersting to see how these new rules stand up in the local
courts and the state supreme court. The it will probely escalate up to the Federal
courts and US Supremem Court eventually along with many other recent gun law
that have been enacted by knee jerk reactionist.

Coloradans need to call the governor’s office TODAY at (303)866-2471 and POLITELY state that they will support the governor if he VETOES these bills, but that they will do everything in their power to ensure that he’s not re-elected IF HE SIGNS THEM. His Chief of Staff is keeping a tally on the pro vs. con calls. It’s our last chance, slim as it is, but if we sit back and do nothing we have only ourselves to blame.

Big deal… All it takes is for some judge to remove the sheriff and put in a lap dog sheriff who will enforce the unconstitutional law.

    • DogOfWar

Good news. A judge cannot under any circumstances remove & replace an elected official!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1181617897 Brad Skidmore

Any enforcement of these unconstitutional laws will result in bloodshed… just like Ruby Ridge.. only far worse.

Vote the traitors out of office in 2014! Their intent is clearly to disarm all Americans. Remember well who sold-out the 2nd Amendment in Colorado when you next go to the ballot-box.

  • 9Spoon9

“Atta Boy” Sheriff Cooke! Many others have voiced what side of the Law they’ll stand on and it so happens to be the side where the US Constitution & the Key of Liberty…the 2nd Amendment are located. Thanks for telling your CO Law-breakers in the State “Roundhouse” what they can expect.

  • tushambi

What makes America different from many other countries around the world is that we are a country of laws and most citizens obey the laws. If a Sheriff is not willing to follow the law he should resign and run for the legislature. What if the Sheriff woke up tomorrow and thought it was OK to rape children. Therefore, he shouldn’t enforce rape laws. If I was the Govenor I would fire Sheriff Cook e. I have owned guns my whole life and hope to continue owning guns. However, I don’t intend to break the law.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bill.brantner.5 Bill Brantner

No Sheriff has to enforce any Federal Law that is unconstitutional. The Second Amendment is not that complicated. Shall not be infringed, means shall not, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

  • Scott Brown

None of the current or past legislation is intended to increase public safety; every piece has been and will continue to be all about disarming American citizens, the sworn opposition to socialism, communism, fascism, totalitarianism, and a dozen or more isms to boot. The scramble is about garnering support for their illegal legislation while the tragedies are still warm in the public mind.

We’re not all stupid out here in the real world, where morality, character, honor, integrity, honesty, freedom, liberty, self determination, and self responsibility are very real and desirable characteristics. And the concept of “family” has not been totally destroyed by the likes of Bill Maher and ilk et al.

So I also would like to ad my “go pound sand” for I will not comply with illegal legislation, which compliance with IS illegal in its own right!

Nullification through non-compliance and jury nullification. Study Jury Nullification and practice it in every non-violent case before you until the socialist-fascist Leftists relent their designs on destroying American and all We the People stood and stand for. We can undo every bad law and tax law foisted on us by an elitist class of fascist globalists.

    Stank strong Sheriff Cooke.

  • DegreedWhiteGuy

Catch 22 if Im selling a firearm to friend Ive known long enough to know they are stable, a background check would be silly. If no one in my circle of friends is in the market, a $10 background check to relieve me of the liability sounds fantastic. But who on earth is going to perform a background check and back it that cheap? Post their business site if you know where it exists. Will the state provide this at $10 ? They can absorb that liablity for $10 from me any day. But it needs to be an option, for selling to folks you dont know. Not if Im selling,or giving a niece or nephew a rifle out my collection.

So point is yes it should be available, but is unenforceable, who is to ever say when a used gun was sold? It still doesnt solve the problem of the unstable person, an open mental health care system might be a better solution for the disturbed person (if nut is politically incorrect) problem.

I hope that the magazine manufacturer does move out, as threatened, and puts up a for sale sign on the building before the governor’s signiture is dry.

I hope every County Sheriff in the nation tells Obama and the feds to shove any new gun legislation where the sun don’t shine!!!!!!!!!
