Constitutional Carry: Maine House of Representatives to Consider Constitutional Carry Reform Legislation

state-houseAs early as tomorrow, attempts could be made on the floor of the Maine House of Representatives to amend permitless carry (constitutional carry) into Legislative Document 222, legislation that addresses the issuance of concealed carry permits in Maine.

Similar to last year’s failed Legislative Document 660, the NRA-supported amendment would create a permitless carry exemption to allow a resident of Maine who is not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm to carry concealed without obtaining a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP).

In Maine, existing law allows any resident who can legally own or possess a firearm to carry it openly, either loaded or unloaded, anywhere in Maine where lawfully permitted.
