After days in which the media and some politicians castigated Donald Trump for not saying the words they wanted to hear while disavowing what the media called an endorsement of Trump by former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke, Duke himself has said they got it all wrong.
“I’m David Duke and this is a quick unscripted response to the CNN interview today with Donald Trump. The inaccurate reporting by the media that I had endorsed Donald Trump… I am not endorsing Donald Trump,” Duke said Sunday night in a YouTube video.
Last Wednesday, Duke started the furor by supporting Trump on his radio show.
“Voting for these people, voting against Donald Trump at this point, is really treason to your heritage,” Duke said on the David Duke Radio Program.
Also Monday, Duke appeared on Fox News Radio’s The Alan Colmes Show to deny endorsing Trump.
“When you say you endorse someone you’re basically endorsing the person and basically people get the impression you’re endorsing everything about them,” Duke said. “I think that voting sometimes is not a question of endorsing someone, but sometimes you vote strategically.”
