Good for our men in blue. De Blasio is nothing but scum.
Hundreds of officers outside the church where a funeral was held for a policeman killed along with his partner in an ambush shooting turned their backs on the New York mayor as he spoke during Saturday’s service.
Rafael Ramos, a 40-year-old father of two, was shot dead with his partner officer Wenjian Liu, on a Brooklyn street by shooter, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, last weekend.
Today his wife Maritza, and two teenage sons Justin and Jaden were surrounded by thousands of police officers at the 90-minute service at Christ Tabernacle Church in Glendale neighborhood of Queens. The eldest son wore his father’s NYPD jacket
The reaction Saturday follows comments from police union officials who said Mayor Bill de Blasio contributed to a climate of mistrust toward police amid anti-police protests.
When he arrived at the funeral, according to CNN, he was booed and a protester held a sign reading ‘Dump de Blasio’.
The mayor said hearts citywide were aching after the shootings that left Ramos and his partner dead.
The police union president and others turned their backs on the mayor in a sign of disrespect at the hospital after the December 20 shooting.
Lynch blamed de Blasio then for the officers’ deaths and said he had blood on his hands.
Sgt. Myron Joseph of the New Rochelle Police Department said he and fellow officers turned their backs spontaneously to ‘support our brothers in the NYPD.’
In a statement, de Blasio’s spokesman said: ‘The Ramos and Liu families, our police department and our city are dealing with an unconscionable tragedy. Our sole focus is unifying this city and honoring the lives of our two police officers.’
The NYPD said through its public relations office that it had no comment.
Vice President Joe Biden told thousands of people gathered Saturday for the funeral that their deaths ‘touched the soul of an entire nation.’
Ramos and Liu were the first officers to die in the line of duty in New York since 2011.
Officers watching the funeral service on giant screens joined those inside in applauding when Biden called the New York Police Department the finest in the world. Read more at dailymail.co.uk
