Some of the most heavily gun controlled cities in the country are also some of the most violent. You constantly hear about a shooting in Chicago.
Or maybe Baltimore.
In fact, The Baltimore Sun put the total number of murders from 2016 into perspective. Last year, 318 people were murdered, meaning “one out of every 2,000 [Baltimore] residents was killed in 2016.”
And 2016 wasn’t the worst year on the books. Nope, that horrific title goes to 2015, when 344 homicides occurred.
This is a staggering murder rate. And the Democratic mayor, Catherine Pugh, knows it.
That’s why she is begging the FBI to step in to stem the rising murder rate.
“I’m calling on all the assistance we can possibly get because I can’t imagine going into our summer months with our crime rate where it is today, what that’s going to look like by the end of the summer…Murder is out of control.”
The admission must be a hard pill for Pugh to swallow since her city is one of the most gun-controlled cities in the country. There is a “high capacity” magazine ban, which was part of the Firearm Safety Act of 2013.
Still, Breitbart reported that “the Trace, a gun control journalism outlet, shows that the criminal use of ‘high capacity’ magazines jumped in 2013 and continued to climb in 2014, 2015, and 2016.”
Interesting…well that law doesn’t seem to be working out so well.
The Baltimore Sun pointed out, in addition to the “high capacity” ban, the Firearm Safety Act requires would-be handgun purchasers to submit fingerprints to the state police.
And there was the ever-present “assault weapons” ban. In Baltimore, that encompassed 45 types of firearms.
And yet, with all these restrictions on the books, the two deadliest years for the city occurred after they became law.
Pugh, because she still believes gun control is the answer, is doing the only thing she knows how to, beg for help.
She should take advice from Detroit. Once the police chief told citizens to arm themselves, crime started to go down. There might be some logic there…just maybe.
