‘HE’S EARNED IT’: Kaepernick on the COVER of Time Magazine, Is this a Disgrace?

screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-10-22-20-amTime is known to make some questionable decisions from time to time. This could be considered one of them.

Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest has landed the San Francisco 49ers quarterback on the cover of Time magazine.

Kaepernick’s decision not to stand for The Star-Spangled Banner before games in protest of racial and social inequality and police brutality has fueled debate in the US sports world and beyond.

The magazine told TMZ that Kaepernick earned his way onto their cover, which was released on Wednesday showing him kneeling in uniform in a photograph captioned ‘The Perilous Fight’.

The photo is from one of his previous protests on the field and the cover words note his protest has fueled ‘debate about privilege, pride and patriotism’.

Time said he was chosen for the cover story because he was the ‘obvious choice’ after the protest he sparked has become so widespread, ‘from the rest of the NFL to high schools and colleges across the country’, TMZ Sports reported.

The magazine’s goal was exploring ‘the nationwide debate happening around national anthem protests’, a spokesperson for Time told the gossip news site.

Release of the cover comes a day after Kaepernick revealed he had received death threats from critics who believe the 28-year-old’s protest is disrespectful.

Kaepernick said on Tuesday he had received threats from different avenues since starting his protest.

‘If something like that were to happen, you’ve proved my point,’ Kaepernick said when asked about the possibility of the threats being acted upon.

‘It’ll be loud and clear why it happened.’

The quarterback said he had anticipated the backlash before he embarked on his protest.
