Here is just another reason why our border with Mexico needs extra attention.
Fernando Alvarado-Perez, an illegal immigrant in upstate NY, has been arrested and charged for repeatedly raping a young girl, during the time she was of 12 & 13 years old.
The 37yr-old, who lived in Geneseo, was “charged with first-degree rape, a class B felony, rape in the second degree, a D felony, criminal sex act in the second degree, a D felony, and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child,” the Livingston County News reports.
According to other claims, Alvarado-Perez had sex with the girl in front of a baby.
The suspect has been arraigned and is currently being held without bail at the Livingston County Jail.
Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian says Alvarado-Perez told officers he illegally entered the country roughly 10 years ago. Officials, in turn, notified Border Patrol and an immigration detainer issued by the Department of Homeland Security was sent to the jail.
Geneseo Police Department enacted a new policy in May concerning illegal immigrants. Now, “if an officer stops a driver whose identification cannot be confirmed, the officer will consult either the sergeant or the chief to decide whether to call a partnering law enforcement agency to verify the I.D.”
Luckily this new policy did not apply to Alvarado-Perez, Osganian said in a Monday email.
“Our officers were concerned about investigating this incident and assisting the family the best we could with referral services to other agencies,” said the police chief. “His immigration status wasn’t a priority for us.”
Under President Donald Trump, illegal border crossings have plummeted by nearly 70%, arrests have increased 40% inside the country, and “demands for illegal criminals in local jails have skyrocketed 80%,” according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Thomas D. Homan.
