Had the officers searched the vehicle or observed him for a little longer, they could’ve stopped the attack. This is infuriating.
Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel was allegedly parked on the streets for nearly nine hours before carrying out the bloody attack.
He has been identified as 31-year-old French Tunisian Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel who was a professional delivery driver, according to local media.
It has also been reported that he was already known to the police for petty crime.
The father-of-three reportedly had assault rifles, a pistol and a hand grenade in the lorry with him.
Cops allegedly questioned the driver, but did nothing to move him off the Promenade des Anglais as he waited to carry out his horrific attack.
It is reported that heavy duty lorries are normally banned from the roads during national holidays, but deliveries are often allowed.
At 10.30pm the driver of the vehicle ploughed into tourists and revellers on the promenade for more than a mile before getting out and shooting at people.
He reportedly rented the truck from a garage in Saint Laurent du Var by Nice airport.
