Bill O’Reilly is determined to make some good come out of the senseless murder of Kathryn Steinle by a five-time deported illegal alien with a criminal past, and he’s looking to Congress for help.
Steinle, 32, was shot while walking down a popular San Francisco pier with her father. She died in her father’s arms, allegedly a victim of Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, 45, a Mexican national who had sought refuge from San Francisco’s “sanctuary city” status. O’Reilly has extensively covered the case.
“Imagine if Kate was your daughter,” O’Reilly told his audience Thursday night on “The O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News.
“There is no question that the uber-liberal sanctuary city policy of San Francisco directly led to the murder Kate Steinle,” O’Reilly said.
Steinle’s murder has put sanctuary cities – those that essentially ignore federal law and don’t prosecute illegal immigrants – at the center of controversy.
O’Reilly started a petition on June 7 for “Kate’s Law,” which would mandate a five-year federal prison sentence for illegal immigrants who are deported but illegally re-enter the United States.
“We, the undersigned, respectfully ask Congress to pass Kate’s Law whereby undocumented aliens who are deported and return to the United States would receive a mandatory five year sentence in a federal penitentiary upon conviction,” the petition reads and can be seen here.
