A newly formed group of Arizona citizens, who call themselves the Citizens to Protect Fair Election Results (CPFER), held a press conference on Wednesday to announce its legal demand that an organization calling itself Respect Arizona immediately stop their recall campaign against Maricopa County’s controversial and popular Sheriff Joe Arpaio, or legal actions will be pursued against Respect Arizona and its officers personally.
On its web site, CPFER states it’s concerned that recall actions taken by groups such as Respect Arizona against fairly elected officials are being improperly instituted outside of the law, are being initiated solely to overturn election results which recall proponents simply do not like, and have the real potential of voiding and thereby disenfranchising the votes of the majority of voters.
CPFER hired the well-known attorney Larry Klayman, who founded Judicial Watch and later founded Freedom Watch. However, Klayman said he will be appearing in his private capacity in the Arpaio recall case.
According to CPFER and Klayman, Arpaio is being subjected to an illegal and unconstitutional recall effort in a politically if not criminally motivated attempt to harass and prevent Arpaio from carrying out his duties as the chief law enforcement officer of Maricopa County.
