Lois Lerner’s price for testimony: Immunity

lernerEmbattled IRS official Lois Lerner will not testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee unless she’s given immunity from prosecution, her lawyer told POLITICO Tuesday.

“They can obtain her testimony tomorrow by doing it the easy way … immunity,” William W. Taylor III said in a phone interview. “That’s the way to resolve all of this.”

The comments reflect the hard-line approach Lerner, the former head of the IRS division that scrutinized conservative groups, and her legal team are taking in defending her role in the agency’s scandal.

Taylor, a founding partner of Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, is even shrugging off the possibility that the full House might vote to hold Lerner in contempt.

“None of this matters,” he said. “I mean, nobody likes to be held in contempt of Congress, of course, but the real question is one that we’re fairly confident about, and I don’t think any district judge in the country would hold that she waived.”

The oversight panel voted along party lines last week that Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights at a May 22 hearing when she boldly declared her innocence in the IRS scandal and said she violated no laws — then invoked her constitutional protections to ward off self-incriminating questions from lawmakers.

  • Marge

so no punishment even though she was part of a tyrannical plot?

  • Flipperj

She also better ask for witness protection because she will end up in a bad car wreck. Obama will take her out if she gets too close to him

    • bdaniel230

Does the name Vince Foster remind anyone of what happens to people that have more information than is good for them?

      • Flipperj

        Your 200% right

  • Paul D Garber

Now I am confused. If she was telling the truth about having committed no crime why would she need immunity?

    • danstewart

Actually, she needs protection. If she ever agrees to tell the truth, she WILL have a fatal “accident”, just like obummers past boyfriend lovers.

      • Paul D Garber

More likely the reason she demands amnesty is to take all the credit [blame] for this fiasco upon herself killing two birds with one stone; protection, as you have keenly observed, and ingratiating herself into Obummer’s circle of friend (intentionally omitted the [s])

    • cimiron

lol well that is the ploy of the corrupt democrats isn’t it now?

      • Paul D Garber

Absolutely Spot on Besides I didn’t believe that she did nothing wrong anyway lol

  • bdcorvette

The demand for immunity just indicates that she is in deep doo doo as are others. She declined immunity by speaking on her own behalf initially. Compel her to speak; jail her if she does not. She is a little bird. She will sing before going to the slammer.

  • Hawkeye3939

There is only one reason why anyone would take the fifth or ask for immunity: that’s when the person KNOWS that crimes were committed. Drag the bi*ch up to the Hill and interrogate her. If she refuses to answer truthfully, throw her in a DC jail until she cooperates.

    • The Great Ricardo

      waterboard the sh!thead

    • cimiron

I agree, all these people that refuse to answer the congress should be in jail and you know who is at the four front of this don’t you?

  • raccman

It’s an insult to us and our country when a lying piece of crap can thumb her nose at us and get away with it !

    • bdaniel230

She can only get away with it if the Committee decides her testimony is the only way to get to the facts. If Issa is good to his word she won’t get immunity and she will have to testify under oath. She has already compromised her right to deny testimony on the grounds of self incrimination. When she made the statement she was innocent she abandoned the fifth amendment. Her lawyer is either inept or he didn’t realize what she was going to say before she made the statement.

  • char51

why give hervimmunity, why not just throw her ass in jail. and do away with her cushie pengen, and fire her but she talks.

  • xdrfox

No Right to remain silent !

  • Fred_K

For immunity, she needs to sign an agreement to not work in the federal government for the rest of her natural (or unnatural) life.
The Feds should have a clause in their hiring contract, that anyone who pleads the 5th when questioned about their job, must immediately quit, and not work for the federal government for the rest of their life. The information they know belongs to the government, because it was obtained during their employment with the government. It is not theirs to hide. If they want to steal information from the government, they are not honest enough to work for the government.

    • homeisthehunter

I think you need to add that they lose any benefits…including retirement.

      • Fred_K

        That too.

  • DaveP326

Why would this government employee need immunity. She said that she didn’t do anything wrong or illegal. It couldn’t be that she lied to the senate committee…..could it? I worked in law enforcement for 32 years. It was a condition of employment to cooperate with all investigations, This means that if I took the 5th amendment, I would be fired on the spot. Apparently this should apply to all government employees at every level.

  • Carl Stevenson

No immunity. Jail her for contempt of congress. Let her rot there until she testifies. Suspend all of her pay and benefits. If she’s guilty of any crimes (including perjury), jail her for those. Forfeit her pension. Seize her property and sell it.

  • OzzWorx

SO! Who is going to jail?!?

  • John W.H.

They should do it the hard way and jail this moron till she is ready to answer questions

  • HongryHawg

If we are counting on the judges in this country to side with us as to whether she waived or not, recent history tells us it’s not going to happen. Regardless of that, the corrupt hoer will probably get immunity, but Issa should deny her. Hang her out with others. She has no right to make demands for her testimony just as she had no right to deny legitimate taxpayers their legitimate exempt status. I say she’s the first to blink by even demanding the trade. Her attorneys have told her she will have to testify but meanwhile, let’s try this.

    • cimiron

so far the judges are just as corrupt, look at Holder

  • Eric Haulenbeek

I don’t understand why she’s asking for immunity if she did nothing wrong?

  • PatCindyCunningham

She deserves Prison time, the amount, is up to her. I would arrest her and hold her for a while. Then ask her what She wants to do.

  • Anita

She needs to go to jail until she agrees to testify. When these crooks are testifying they need to be hooked up to a truth machine.

  • DenverKitty

NO DEALS with criminals!!! Lois Lerner: Tell all you know OR Off With Your Head! Put her in jail UNTIL she agrees to testify !!

Lerner has already committed more than on crime that could net her fines and a jail sentence, give her this immunity to testify and then prosecute her later for another offense…..she is a sham and a joke as a civil servant….

  • danstewart

Beware, if she gets immunity, she will claim that everything was her idea, thus covering for the pos potus. I think ALL of this crap started in the “black house”. The chicago mafia is VERY adept at covering up & shifting blame.

  • sovereigntyofone

For someone that said she has don’t nothing wrong or broken any IRS policies, why would she need immunity to testify???? Normally immunity means you got caught red handed and made a deal to protect yourself from prosecution if you ” rat ” on someone else.
    Just my 2 cents worth.

  • pointdan

NO Immunity – offer her a facelift instead.
    You too Hilliary . . . .

  • Janthony132

If she refuses, hold her in contempt and let her face the $1,000. fine and one year in prison….might loosen up her tongue. It is time for Congress to take off the kid gloves and show that they have teeth.

    • TeaParty Patriot (TTP)

the owebomb will give her a pardon and reinstate her in her old job or give her a BIG promotion.

  • lokiswife

Give her immunity and protection and let her tell everything she knows. Prosecutors do it a lot to get the smaller frog to spill all on the bigger frog and we know who the big frog is. Get a good prosecutor on the case who will ask the important questions and demand answers (no wimps allowed here). She knows, she can prove what we already suspect.

  • Jack_Reacher

Class, our next project is demanding from our politicians that government employees can be fired for ANY misdeed committed.

And government employee wages need to be dropped by at least 30% with a matching drop of 30% for benefits.

  • Jon Willey

We did not permit Nixon and his cohorts to interfere with due process and we should not permit the abject deceit and arrogance of this administration to be exempt from being held accountable for unethical deeds and pursuing a lack of adherence to our nations
laws. Remember, regardless of what Obama and his minions think, no one is above the rule of law, no one.

  • Indiana Conservative

Tell this fing idiot Taylor to go to hell and say she shows or else.Giving ths Brown Shirt FEMINAZI immunity is not the way to go.How many times did she give immunity to the citizens that the rotten internal RETALIATON service went after?

  • Tom

Better make sure of what she”ll testify to before giving her immunity. Limited immunity for limited testimony and only for testimony that actually describes who did what.

  • CrustyOldGeezer

Just waterboard the ‘b!tch’ and be done with it.

It’s not torture, just ‘scary’ and we all know that even the threat will cause them to find Jesus, apologize, spout meaningless platitudes and expect their world to go back to the happy place their mind created for them to live in.

A taste of the world the rest of us have to live in would be a good soul cleansing experience for her.

  • TeaParty Patriot (TTP)

duplicitous . . . talk from a corruptocrat. If lerner broke no laws as she has already testified. WHY does she need need immunity from prosecution? If she lied in her original testimony and was covering for laws she already broke, then she is already in contempt of congress and should be put in jail for the original denial of complicity and lies. Her insistence on immunity already proclaims her guilt, she broke laws, many laws. The only reason she is willing to testify is that there are whistleblowers that the corruptocrats are keeping under wraps until a deal is brokered.
Second even considering that she might get immunity from prosecution, what is she gonna say that she needs immunity from.
No lawyer worth his salt ever asks a question of a witness that he does not already know the answer. Surely they can have a closed committee hearing (they have NEVER been reluctant before to keep the citizenry in the dark.) and get her proposed testimony. If she agrees to give testimony that will hang the liar in chief, agree to immunity (and her resignation without retirement benefits) but if she reneges on that testimony then hang her from the guillotine, preferably the under side of the blade.
Don’t buy a pig in the poke, Congress did that and we got the obombeuthanasiaprogram

    • Brooklynresident

      Just another stinky POS.

      Protecting the POtuS.

  • Terry Lee

It is simple. Give her limited immunity for things she was Compelled to do, but not for any illegal activity she did of her own volition. That is fair and will expose any higher ups as well as keeping her from receiving immunity in order to take the blame for ObamA.

  • Sarah Conner

Why isn’t this b!tch in jail already ?Another free pass and she’ll get a promotion ? Snatch her azz up already and throw her in jail along with hitlery, lice, neopolitan, sebelious, power and all the rest of the nazi goon squad…from what I know a few days in solitary will loosen their vocals cords…and if not, waterboard them…but don’t let em’ come up for air [snicker, snicker ]…WHY IS THERE EVEN A DISCUSSION ON THIS ?THROW HER AZZ IN JAIL !

  • wdcraftr

Just put her in General Population Prison, until she cooperates with the Courts. She is compelled to answer questions, or she is in contempt of court.

Give her the immunity, let her testify and then prosecute her on other criminal charges and abuse she has committed as a person in a office of civil trust…get rid of the left.

I’d give the witch immunity, she’s a small cog in a filthy machine. But we can use her to get to the higher ups, esp. Holder and his boss, the Scumbag-in-Chief.

  • Breeze13

Use the NDAA to detain her, in jail, with no charges, until she decides to talk. I’d give her two weeks at the most before she sings like a bird.

  • Shagnasty1

The Republican cowards will let her get away with it too.

  • ElderAmbassador

Message to Lois – words have consequences. You’re stupidity caused you to give up your 5th amendment rights so now you need to testify, or go into witness protection, or maybe both.

  • lokiswife

Give her immunity AND protection – prosecutors often use the “little frog in the pond” to bring down the “big frog in the pond” and we know who the big frog is. She knows what happened, she was part of it, and she has the information that should be made public. Let her tell, protect her from the thugs who will try to shut her up and let’s get to the bottom of this ugly story.

  • Paladin

Put her in jail for perjury for the lies she has already told.
Let he sit in lock up indefinitely and she’ll come crying like a baby to talk all about it.

  • wandamurline

How about instead of spending the rest of her lousy life in prison, she testifies and gets a lesser sentence?

  • DenverKitty

My price for Lerner: jail or worse yet PRISON until she finishes singing like the vulture she is.

  • mustang

Paul, right on…and as a federal employee she either testfies, after the subpoena, or rots in jail untilbshe does. No Deal Learner, talk or enjoy prison.

  • Lgbpop

They can also obtain her testimony by finding this freeloading broad (pulling a full paycheck while not lifting a finger to do work, because she can refuse to be fired) in contempt of Congress, and locking her up until she wants to see daylight again. Toss that lawyer into the klink with her – it would make a good start on imperious government officials and their arrogant attorneys.

  • magnum747

Oh, hell no!!!!!!!! Nail her to the wall……Prison, prison, prison!!!

  • afanaglenn

She needs to be jailed. She is not special, nor privileged when it comes to the constitution. Prosecute her. Her freedom is giving her time to get others to tell a certain story which will be far from the truth.
