The internet has been set ablaze with a photo depicting a man kneeling on one knee at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, during the playing of taps.
“Taps” is a ‘bugle call played at dusk, during flag ceremonies, and at military funerals by the United States armed forces and is regularly played at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,’ reports American Military News.
Refusing to stand for Taps is considered extremely disrespectful.
Though it is not clear why the man is kneeling during the song, while everyone else was standing, the assumption can be made it has something to do with the current NFL protest of the national anthem.
People on social media are pissed, to say the least.
‘Protocol at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is that you stand, and many times the Soldiers who guard the Tomb will directly address people who are not standing and demand they stand,’ reports American Military News.
“Someone actually had the nerve to [take a knee] at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. That is the definition of absolute trash,” says Laura Loomer on twitter.
“I support everyone’s right to free speech, but I feel in in the shadow of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier it is inappropriate,” Zachary Bell tweeted.
In the photo you can see everyone else is standing, all with their hands over their hearts, except for the idiot who is ‘taking a knee’.
