Mallory Hagen made New York doubly proud Saturday night, winning the Miss America crown and expressing a point of view on gun control most likely shared by many in the uber-liberal Big Apple, where more than 80 percent of the state’s voters helped re-elect President Obama.
In the question portion of Saturday’s competition, Hagen was asked,
“In the wake of the Newtown tragedy, there has been a lot of talk about gun control. One solution being proposed is [to put] an armed guard in every school. Do you think that would make our schools safer?”
“I don’t think the proper way to fight violence is with violence. I think the proper way is to educate people on guns and the ways we can use them properly. We can lock them up, we can have gun safety classes, we can have a longer waiting period.”
Wait a minute, Missy, stop right there. What did you say?
“I don’t think the proper way to fight violence is with violence.”
The act of putting an armed guard in every school constitutes violence? Really?
