Adam Strange, a 46-year-old film director, was killed Wednesday while swimming off New Zealand’s Muriwai Beach. According to The New Zealand Herald, nearby angler Pio Mose first saw the shark coming towards the filmmaker. Mose tried to warn Strange, but by then it was too late.
“It’s awful–it’s scary like a nightmare to me,” Mose told the Herald. “All I was thinking was I wanted to jump in the water and help but I didn’t want to get attacked by a shark too.”
Police suspect that a group of three great white sharks were involved in the attack and targeted Strange when he swam too close.
