Indiana is receiving quite the backlash for this new bill. Do you think they will buckle under pressure or stick to their guns?
Angie’s List Inc., which publishes consumer reviews on businesses such as plumbers and dentists, has halted a plan to expand its Indianapolis headquarters, citing Indiana’s new law allowing businesses to refuse to serve gays and lesbians on religious grounds.
The company said it had expected to break ground within days on a project to expand its campus. Chief Executive Bill Oesterle said Saturday that the company won’t move forward until it can “fully understand” the impact Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act would have on its employees.
“Angie’s List is open to all and discriminates against none and we are hugely disappointed in what this bill represents,” Oesterle said in a statement.
Angie’s List’s move is the most tangible so far after the so-called “Religious Freedom Bill” was signed into law on Thursday by Governor Mike Pence, a Republican. Other companies, including Apple Inc. and Yelp Inc., have called the legislation discriminatory.
