Reports have come out that the New York Police Department is cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement despite a promise from Mayor Bill de Blasio that it would stay a sanctuary city.
Is law enforcement going against the mayor’s wishes? One can only speculate.
However, it is being said that the NYPD allegedly alerts ICE officers to criminal court appearances of illegal immigrants that are subject to deportation, according to the New York Daily News.
Austin Finan, a spokesman for Mayor de Blasio, didn’t deny that the NYPD and ICE communicate on a regular basis. “NYPD notifies and confirms with all inquiring and arresting agencies the status of an arrestee who may be the subject of a warrant,” said Finan.
Blasio signed a law into effect back in 2014 that reduced New York City’s cooperation with ICE significantly. The new rule prohibits police from honoring ICE detainer requests… only unless the people in question are convicted of ‘violent or serious crimes’.
Seems like the NYPD is sick of these illegals running around, endangering the citizens of America; and could care less about ol’ Bill’s unconstitutional laws.
