When it comes to gun control, liberals have no boundaries.
The latest attack on freedom loving gun owners comes from California Assemblyman Kevin McCarty. He’s pushing for a bill that would take away school administrators’ power to allow teachers with a concealed carry license to be armed in the classrooms for self-defense.
He wants to take away guns from teachers. Teachers who are there to protect the students. Teachers who have gone through all the checks to receive their license to carry. Teachers who are trusted!
He introduced the bill on February 13 and in mid-March Bakersfield.com reported that it was being pushed as a way “of closing a loophole in the Gun Free School Zone Act. That act, also known as SB 707, barred firearms on school grounds, but made exceptions for anyone granted permission by local superintendents.” AB 424 would take away superintendents’ powers to allow teachers with CCW’s to be armed for self-defense.
Gun Owners of California’s Sam Peredes talked to Breitbart News on May 12 and said, “Two years ago, California passed a bill saying a concealed carry permit holder could not carry on any school campus unless they had the authorization of the school administrator. Well, out of the one thousand school districts in California, five of them decided to allow concealed permit holders to carry on their campuses. That so ticked off the legislature that now they are going to take away the authority of even administrators to allow CCW holders to carry on their campuses.”
This is California we are talking about. The land of gun control. But when schools were allowed to have teachers carry, five school districts said yes! This is huge!
You would have thought California was really turning around, realizing armed law abiding citizens was a good thing.
And then McCarty comes out and is trying to take that away.
He justified the push for the bill, saying, “A safe learning environment is essential for our children to be successful in the classroom. That’s not possible if a school district allows armed civilians to roam California school campuses.”
What about Sandy Hook Elementary? That was a “safe” learning environment until a gunman ignored all the gun-free zone signs and slaughtered children. Once he was in the building, who was going to stop him?
Teachers do everything they can to protect their students. But when an armed attacker makes their way into the classroom, what are they going to do without a gun?
It’s a horrible thought, but it can happen. The sooner lawmakers wake up, the better and safer our children will be.
