As a woman who practices Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and shoots guns, I clearly know that carrying a gun is not the only option in protecting myself.
I strongly believe in learning to defend your life with your own hands and turning your body into a weapon.
“As a woman, I have the right NOT to carry a gun.”
No duh Miss Dickey.
As a free citizen of this country yes, you have the right to choose to be a sitting duck and leave yourself completely defenseless if/when you’re attacked (1 in 5 women have experienced rape in 2012 according to CDC).
My issue is with your first statement:
“…the thought that the only way to protect ourselves [that is you ladies] is to wield our own weapon is completely absurd and an argument I discount as frivolous.“
Representative Hullinghorst, how else do you expect women to defend their lives if not with a weapon?
As I stated earlier, my body is basically a weapon because I have been trained to use it as such. When the statistics stand against me I do not find that completely absurd. It is actually a very smart move because if I ever become that 1 out of 5 woman, I know my attacker will be rolled away on a stretcher with either:
a) broken appendages, depending on which ones I get a hold of,
b) a really bad headache from a choke hold/strikes to the face,
c) or all of the above (that is if I don’t have time to grab my gun).
You see ladies, Rep. Dickey can probably afford to make such statements because as the Colorado Democrat Majority Leader she probably has insane security detail; and most likely her guards are carrying guns… like Obama’s.
I on the other hand, do not have armed guards following me around, so I took matters into my own hands, literally.
Do NOT take the protection of you life lightly ladies. Do NOT listen to Rep. Hullinghorst. DO take action and learn the necessary techniques to turn from prey to formidable defender.
