AN armed robber was stopped in his tracks by a gutsy Paisley shopkeeper who broke a baseball bat over his head.
Brave Muhammad Atif, 45, was working alone at 9.10pm on Thursday night in Jazzy’s Newsagent on Netherhill Road when a hooded robber armed with a serrated bread knife burst in and demanded cash.
Dramatic CCTV footage showed the scumbag holding a knife to Muhammad as he filled a bag with notes from the till.
However, as the thief leaned over to pick up dropped notes, Muhammad struck, launching a brave defence of his shop with a baseball bat.
Muhammad told the Paisley Daily Express: “I was alone behind the till when this guy came in. He reached into his waist band and pulled out a long knife.
“I knew what was happening, he said, ‘Give me all your cash’.
“I’m a father-of-four, I wasn’t going to argue with him. I just did as he asked and started emptying the till.
“He stood behind the counter with me, with the knife right up to me as I filled the bags.
“I definitely think he was on something – he was high.
“I was thinking to myself – there is a bat that was somewhere back here that was left by the previous owners.”
