A stabbing attack took place in front of Damascus Gate in Jerusalem Saturday afternoon, police said. It was the second incident near the gate today.
According to a statement released by a Jerusalem police department spokesperson, three police officers were wounded in the incident. One of the officers, who is in his 20s, was critically wounded, while the other two suffered moderate wounds.
The victims were rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center and Hadassah University Medical Center in Ein Kerem.
According to the statement, two of the officers wounded in the attack were shot by friendly fire.
According to the statement, police noticed an Arab youth who aroused their suspicion. The officers accosted the youth and asked to see identification. At that point the Arab youth presented his ID. Moments later, he took out a blade and stabbed two of the officers, one of them in the neck.
