Most politicians are in fact hypocrites and will say anything to get what they want. Case in point.
Two shocking events occurred last Saturday: the death of Antonin Scalia, and Mitch McConnell growing a backbone and vowing to stop any Obama nominee that would fill his seat.
The historical precedent is already clear on this issue. There was only one time in the past 100 years that a president attempted to nominate a Supreme Court Justice in an election year, LBJ in 1968, and the nomination was shot down in the Senate.
And when there was an empty seat in 2007, Democrats were open in their opposition to Bush trying to appoint a new Justice so close to an election.
