Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) both went on CNN, during separate interviews, and tried to portray the Democrats as victims to the GOP over the current government shutdown saga.
Interesting thing about these two politicians is that each have a history of lying. Blumenthal is known to have lied about his service record in Vietnam and Durbin is known to make a fib or two about ‘sh**hole’ statements that never occurred; so it came as no surprise on Sunday when these two tried to lie on CNN, but what was surprising was the network’s correction on the two senators’ ‘fake news.’
Blumenthal attempted to pull the lie that the Republicans were in complete control of the Senate; to which Wolf Blitzer replied: “Well, let me interrupt politely. They’re not completely in control of the U.S. Senate as you know, they only have 51 votes, the Democrats are in the minority, but you need 60 votes in order to break a filibuster, so they’re not in control of the Senate when it comes to this issue.”
Then Durbin attempted to claim Republicans have failed to authorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and then tried selling the same line Blumenthal made.
The female host stopped Durbin in his tracks, pointing out that “Republicans did include the reauthorization of CHIP in the bill and stopped him again to remind him that the Democrats do in fact have power in the U.S. Senate as 60 votes are needed,” reports the Daily Wire.
