Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, 29, killed eight Americans and seriously injured 12 others in an ISIS-inspired terror attack in New York City; not far from the World Trade Center.
He is being described as a Muslim who, “attended a ‘suspicious’ mosque in New Jersey and allegedly radicalized sometime after moving to the U.S. seven years ago,” reports the Daily Mail.
Saipov is a married man and father of three. Him and his family immigrated to the U.S. from Uzbekistan in March 2010.
During his attack on Tuesday, he was shot in the stomach to during his killing spree. After undergoing surgery in Bellevue Hospital he spoke with authorities, where he allegedly “showed no remorse for the lives he had taken. One source told ABC News that he seemed ‘proud’ and the New York Post said he was ‘boasting’,” reports the Daily Mail.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo confirmed that Saipov ‘radicalized domestically’ during a morning interview with CNN. The terrorist worked as a commercial truck driver and an Uber driver.
Sources are finding that his plans of attacking New Yorkers was a plot he devised for sometime.
Via the Daily Mail: NYPD officials said at a Wednesday morning press conference that Saipov had been planning the attack for weeks, but wouldn’t go into detail about his preparations.
However, they said that he followed ‘exactly to a T’ instructions the terrorist group had posted online about how to carry out a terrorist attack.
Law enforcement sources also told the New York Post that they’re investigating the possibility that Saipov did a dry run of the attack three days before.
On October 28, Saipov’s was was seen on the George Washington Bridge, the crossing at the far northern tip of the island between New Jersey and New York.
That same day, his EZ-pass recorded him driving through the Holland Tunnel (which also links New Jersey and New York) twice. The Holland Tunnel is located in lower Manhattan, near where Saipov started his rampage on Tuesday.
