In a change of plan concerning his committee’s investigation of the Benghazi attack, Rep. Trey Gowdy is now asking Hillary Clinton to appear for two public hearings, not one public and one private as previously indicated. Politico reports that the Select Committee on Benghazi wants the former secretary of state to testify once about the 2012 attack on the U.S. compound and another time about her controversial email practices while the nation’s top diplomat.
“This is a departure from what Benghazi Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy originally requested from the former secretary of state. The South Carolina Republican wanted a private, transcribed interview on Clinton’s email use and a public hearing on the terrorist attacks.”
Even though Gowdy has sent a formal letter asking for the pair of public appearances before the committee by the Democrat presidential candidate, there’s no indication they will, in fact, occur. Mrs. Clinton’s latest round of troubles centering on her alleged pay-to-play scheme of trading official favors for foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation may impact her decision whether to comply with Gowdy’s request.
