CINCINNATI POLICE OFFICER: Dead After Morning Shootout

Cincinnati police officials have identified the Cincinnati officer shot and killed Friday morning as Sonny Kim, 48, a 27-year veteran with the department.

The suspect, who has not been identified, has also died.

Kim grew up in Chicago and moved to Cincinnati in 1986 to attend classes at the University of Cincinnati, police said. He was appointed as a recruit of the Cincinnati polic department and assigned to the police acedemy in 1987. He was promoted to police officer in 1998 after graduation.

He worked in District 2 for the last 26 years, police said.

He has received 22 commendations and had an “exemplerary career,” officials said.

Kim leaves behind three sons.
