Democrats are THRILLED about the latest trillion-dollar budget. Conservatives are left with their jaws on the floor.
Just a quick recap, the new budget Paul Ryan and House Republicans included strict language to ensure any and all funding would NOT go to Trump’s border wall.
The Washington Post reports:
There are explicit restrictions to block the border wall. We knew last week there would be no money to start construction on a project that the president says is more important to his base than anything else. But the final agreement goes further, putting strict limitations on how Trump can use new money for border security (e.g. to invest in new technology and repair existing fencing). Administration officials have insisted they already have the statutory authority to start building the wall under a 2006 law. This prevents such an end run.
The $1.5 billion for border security is also half as much as the White House requested. Additionally, there are no cuts in funding to sanctuary cities, something a federal judge said last week would be required for the Justice Department to follow through on its threats. And there is also no money for a deportation force.
So, just what does the budget fund?
- Planned Parenthood gets a nice chunk of change
- Central American illegal immigrant centers will receive some
- Domestic spending will increase
- No cuts in funding to EPA (despite Trump’s wishes)
- Continue payment on Obamacare subsidies (healthcare repeal, where are you?)
- And no funding cuts to sanctuary cities
Again, Ryan is doing what he can to ignore Trump.
And now Ryan has given the Dems the perfect fundraising ammo.
What do we mean? Well, check this out:
From the DNC:
You’ve got the GOP on the ropes.
Late last night, Democratic leaders reached a deal to stop a Republican-led government shutdown, and it’s a major victory for all of us who are resisting the Trump agenda:
Democrats prevented Republicans from blocking funding for Planned Parenthood.
Protected important programs from severe cuts proposed by Donald Trump.
Not one red cent for Donald’s border wall.
That’s huge. And it only happened because you made sure Republicans knew there’d be hell to pay for backing Donald Trump’s agenda.
But chalking up one big win doesn’t mean Republicans are giving up. In fact, Donald Trump’s chief of staff and chief economist have said that the GOP has the votes in the House to pass Trumpcare. That would put Donald Trump one step closer to signing away the ACA’s protections for people with pre-existing condtions. Millions of Americans health care — and lives — are on the line.
We chalked up a big win yesterday, and that’s great. But we can’t afford to rest on our laurels. Take action now: call on Republicans to stop their crusade to take our health care away:
