IRS’ Lois Lerner Tried to Force Illinois Republican Out of Race

lernerThere are more troubling allegations surfacing this morning about the IRS scandal, including a report that embattled IRS official Lois Lerner, who is now on paid administrative leave, tried to force an Illinois Republican out of a race in 1996.

Steve Doocy brought up the Illinois Review blog’s report on Fox and Friends in a discussion with Michelle Malkin.

Al Salvi, who was running for Senate against Democrat Dick Durbin, says he crossed paths with Lerner when she was head of the Enforcement Division of the Federal Election Commission. The FEC had brought a complaint against Salvi and he says that Lerner told him,  “Promise me you will never run for office again, and we’ll drop this case.”

He refused and the complaint was eventually dismissed, but he said he recognized Lerner when he saw her take the Fifth in a House hearing. Malkin says this suggests that Lerner and many others in the Obama administration have a …
