The petition to boycott Target over their decision to let transgender shoppers and employees use whichever bathroom they choose is growing so fast, by the time you read this, it may have doubled.

But as of press time the American Family Association’s “Boycott Target” petition is now at 380,180 signatures and climbing quickly. News reports from as recently as yesterday had the number of signatures at 180,000.

This doesn’t bode well for Target, which prides itself on its ability to appeal to middle-class shoppers, mothers and families.

Last week, Target announced they “welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.” They claim this is not a change, that it has always been the Target policy.

But apparently, now may have been a bad time to “re-announce” it.

The American Family Association (AFA) points out that the problem isn’t with “transgenders” and they don’t think people who consider themselves “transgender” are any more likely to be sexual predators than anyone else. Their argument is that allowing anyone to wander into the bathroom of their choice opens the door to real sexual predators who will take advantage of the lax laws.

On their website, they list about a dozen cases across the country of people who either used the “gender neutral bathroom” rule as an excuse to enter a women’s restroom or were predators themselves.
