An 11-month-baby has died after a South Florida mother left the child in a car for at least an hour, however, police believe it may have been a tragic accident.

According to police, they received a call around 6:30 p.m. referencing an unresponsive child in the vehicle, located at the 3200 block of Northwest 19th Street. Once crews arrived, the family had taken the child out of the car and were performing CPR.

The family had just returned home and were unloading groceries. An hour had passed before realizing that the child was left behind.

The child was taken to Palmetto General, but was later pronounced dead.

Police said this may be a case of a tragic accident. “We believe initially that there was no intent to obviously leave the child inside the car, that’s the initial information and the reaction that we’re getting from the child,” said Lauderhill Police Lt. Gregory Solowsky.
