POWERFUL: France Just Held a Tribute to Paris Attack Victims and it Will Have You Fighting Back Tears [WATCH]

The location of the memorial service and the sweet melody will get to you.

“So, having nothing, but the strength to love, we will have in our hands, my friend, the whole world.”

Those are the words made famous by iconic French singer Jacques Brel in his song “Quand on n’a que l’amour,” or “When we have only love,” which was given a devastating new relevance at a memorial service for the victims of the Friday, November 13 terrorists attacks on Paris. The usually impassive face of President Francois Hollande, sitting on a single chair in the courtyard, reflected a struggle with emotions.

At the memorial service, held at the stately former military hospital known as Invalides which honors the country’s heroes who have died in battle, French singer Camelia Jordana, Yaël Naïm and Nolwenn Leroy gathered in a courtyard next to a screen showing the faces of the victims and sang Brel’s words as a tribute to lives lost and those still to be lived.
