As a response to the violent protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, a group of legislators came together to make all neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups labeled as terrorist organizations.
The Illinois Senate is responsible for the bill after a woman was run over and killed while counter protesting a rally organized by white nationalists — they disagreed with the removal of General Robert E. Lee’s monument, a confederate statue.
As it has been reported, the driver of the car was himself a white nationalist.
“It is vital that we stand in total opposition to the hatred, bigotry and violence displayed by the white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups in Charlottesville this past weekend,” said sponsoring Sen. Don Harmon, D-Oak Park. “They are the heirs to the Ku Klux Klan and the Nazis. We fought two bloody wars in opposition to their ideologies. We must continue to fight those same twisted ideologies today.”
After the events of this weekend — and certainly prior to — white supremacists and neo-Nazi should rightly be labeled as terrorist organizations.
However, one key organization is missing from the legislation.
Now a petition has formally requested the White House classify the group as a terrorist organization… and it has gone viral online.
The petition has already reached over 140,000 signatures since it was created on August 17th.
It is explained on the petition that Antifa’s MO is terrorism — “the use of violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims” — to further their message.
KEEP SCROLLING FOR UPDATE…
Via the Daily Wire: The left-wing anti-capitalist political movement styles itself a fighting force against “fascism” and “Nazism,” justifying action — including violence — against anyone whom they claim fall into such categories; this has been proven to include essentially anyone on the Right, even if they are active participants in combating neo-Nazism on the so-called “alt-right.”
Antifa has become increasingly active in the past two years, attempting to or succeeding in shutting down speeches from right-wing or liberal speakers by triggering a heckler’s veto. Last weekend, Antifa appeared in Charlottesville to “punch Nazis” at a rally-turned-riot where a man with white supremacist ties murdered 32-year-old Heather Heyer by driving a vehicle into a crowd of counter-protesters.
The group also participated in violent acts against police officers and free speech rally participants in Boston on Saturday, attacking cops and tossing bottles filled with urine at groups of law enforcement.
“AntiFa has earned this title due to its violent actions in multiple cities and their influence in the killings of multiple police officers throughout the United States,” reads the petition. “It is time for the pentagon to be consistent in its actions — and just as they rightfully declared ISIS a terror group, they must declare AntiFa a terror group — on the grounds of principle, integrity, morality, and safety.”
The petition was filed on the government website “We the People”, which was created during the Obama admin. The White House, as mandated by the website, has to give a formal reply within a month if a petition gains 100,000 signatures.
The petition now has 274,358 and it keeps building. With more than double the amount of required signatures, will the White House give its formal reply within 30 days?
Terrorism is defined as “the use of violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims”. This definition is the same definition used to declare ISIS and other groups, as terrorist organizations. AntiFa has earned this title due to its violent actions in multiple cities and their influence in the killings of multiple police officers throughout the United States. It is time for the pentagon to be consistent in its actions – and just as they rightfully declared ISIS a terror group, they must declare AntiFa a terror group – on the grounds of principle, integrity, morality, and safety.
