Westboro Baptist Church is Protesting Robin Williams Funeral

bannerEditor’s Note: The WBC gives Christians a bad name. This move is most likely for cheap publicity. Their reason for targeting Robin Williams is a little flimsy.

The Westboro Baptist Church says it will protest Robin Williams funeral because the actor played a gay character in The Birdcage.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church have announced via their Twitter account, that they plan to protest at the funeral of beloved actor Robin Williams, who shocked the world when he committed suicide this week. The group tweeted:

“Westboro Baptist Church Hopes To Preach In Lawful Proximity To Robin Williams’ Funeral – To Warn The Living: Repent Or Likewise Perish.”

The pseudo-religious group says they are targeting Robin as a “fag enabler”. The group objects to his roles in The Birdcage, in which he played a gay dad, (photo left) and in the family flick Mrs. Doubtfire, in which he dresses like a woman in a scheme to remain close to his children. Westboro has been posting images of “Robin in hell” on their Twitter account all week. (Check the hate collage above.)

The details of Robin’s memorial service have not been released yet, so we can only hope his fans in the area will be able to form a wall of counter-protesters to block the Westboro circus from Robin’s family.

Meanwhile, Planting Peace, the group that has set up the rainbow painted LGBT community center across from the Westboro compound, has been using the Westboro threat to raise donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, one of Robin’s favorite charities. They say they want to overshadow the hate of the Westboro crew with a show of love from those who admired Robin.
